PSC Winter Training Program - Bill Mahoney, Winter Training Coordinator

Each year the PSC conducts a Winter Training Program (WTP).  This is a program of specialized classes...e.g. Sail Trim, Navigation, Anchoring, etc....taught by PSC experts, and aimed at those who want to learn more about sailing than is normally taught in our basic B-KBS classes.  In particular, for those of you who are Bay Skipper Candidates, the WTP was made for you. Don't miss out on this marvellous opportunity to gain skills and knowledge necessary that will help greatly in successfully completing the Bay Skipper written exams.

Plus...as with all PSC activities...we have fun!  Refreshments are served, and it is a great opportunity to hang out with your PSC buddies.

Sessions are normally held on the first or second Saturday of each month from November through April.  See the WTP Schedule below.  Except when otherwise noted, classes will be conducted from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Classes are generally held at a site off base (except for the Red Cross First Aid & CPR at Ft. Belvoir) to accommodate our non-DoD members. Students will be charged a nominal fee per session to cover materials and other expenses.

2007-2008 Winter Training Program Schedule:

PSC Piloting & Navigation Class, Part I on January 12th and Part II on February 2nd

Potential PSC Navigation & Piloting Students,

Learn the fundamentals of piloting and navigation in two Saturdays!  These two classes provide the basics for the Bay Skipper Exam on Navigation.  Space is limited and we need to know well in advance how many sets of charts and training materials to order.

Nav I will be conducted on 12 January, 0930-1530 at
Furnari Hall in Anacostia (directions) (Note that this is a change in location for the 12 January class only).  Cost: $75.00 which covers both sessions or $50 plus one FVSM coupon (no more than one FVSM coupon may be used for Nav I & II.  During Nav I we'll cover aids to navigation (ATONS), our global coordinate system, chart reading, piloting and route planning.  Nav I is a prerequisite for Nav II.

Nav II will be conducted on 2 February at the Charles E. Beatley Library in Alexandria (directions).  During Nav II we'll cover more advanced navigation, piloting, chart work, and electronic navigation.  Nav II builds on the fundamentals presented in Nav I, so you must have attended Nav I to attend Nav II
