Pentagon Sailing Club

Our Vision –  To provide the best training and recreational sailing opportunities to the US Military, Department of Defense Civilians their families and their friends in the Metropolitan Washington DC area.

The Pentagon Sailing Club, (PSC) Inc is a volunteer association incorporated under the Nonprofit Corporation Act (District of Columbia Code, 1981 Edition, Title 29, Chapter 5). We are the largest Chapter of the United States Naval Sailing Association (USNSA), and we train and qualify our members in accordance with USNSA guidelines.

The Pentagon Sailing Club was started in the early 1980’s (1982-1983) by a group of US Military Officers and Department of Defense Civilians that worked together in the Pentagon.  The first Bridge was formed in 1985 and the club was incorporated a Nonprofit Corporation in 1993.  Today membership in PSC is open to all members of the Department of Defense Community, US Military Active and Retired, USCG as well as civilians from all walks of life.  The PSC has over 200 members and continues to grow.  We base our operations at the Capital Cove Marina on Bolling Air Force Base, where we own a club/boat house and maintain a fleet of 5 club-owned boats on the Potomac River.

The PSC is dedicated to introducing and teaching others to sailing in a safe and enjoyable manner. The Club's objectives are to encourage the development of seamanship skills and to provide opportunities for sail training, recreational sailing, racing and related social activities for club members. The club's robust training programs are aligned to meet these goals. Certifications are available at several USNSA levels. Basic sail training is conducted on the Anacostia and Potomac Rivers, and advanced cruising training is provided on the Chesapeake Bay. We also offer a  robust winter Classroom training program. We hold raft-ups/social sails on the Bay, and sponsor an annual trip to the British Virgin Islands.

On the water training generally runs from April through October.  From October to April, we hold classroom training in Boating Safety, Navigation, Rules of the Road, Sail Trim, Heavy Weather Sailing, First Aid and CPR, and Big Boat Systems.  During the 2009 training year 78 students attend our basics keel boat class.

Besides all of these activities, we hold several social events, all designed to enhance the camaraderie of our members and guests. Monthly Membership Meetings are held the third Wednesday of each month except for December when we hold our annual Holiday Party & Awards Dinner.

We believe we are one of the best sailing clubs in the Washington DC Metro Area. You'll learn new skills, make good friends, and have a great time sailing with the PSC!
