    January PSC Membership Social 

    Come out TUESDAY, 20 January 2026 and spend some time with other PSC members and potential members. 

    Registration not required, but is REQUESTED and helpful for planning purposes!!

    Topic: Chartering and Flotillas 

    1) Chartering your own boat, destinations and what it takes

    2) How club skippers organize flotillas of 2 to 5 boats.  How are crews organized, what the contracts look like, and what you need to do to join a boat.

    3) ASA Charter's, Focusing on Fair Winds Sailing School out of Corfu Greece

    4) Open discussion of prices, past destinations and places you would like to go and any other questions.

    Have you missed hanging out with your fellow sailors? Well this is your chance to come have a cocktail, grab some food, and catch up on all the new yesr stuff going on within PSC! 

    It's a great opportunity to connect with friends and meet new friends. We will also be starting a new monthly tradition...club birthdays! Come enjoy some delicious birthday cake and celebrate all your fellow members born in since last session. If you want to be celebrated on your special month please update your profile details on the website to include your month and year. 

    Monthly Membership social meetings are held the third Monday of every month (3rd Tuesday, when Monday is a holiday). We normally have dinner together, hear from a guest speaker, and then conduct a business meeting. All year long, it's a good time!

    Happy Hour and networking starts at 6:00 pm and meeting starts at 7:00 pm with a short ice-breaker.  We recommend that you come early to have some food and drink and hang around with other sailors.

    Winter Training: Rules of the Road

    The Pentagon Sailing Club is excited to announce that we will be offering a comprehensive course on the Nautical Rules of the Road. This essential course is scheduled will be held on Saturday, February 14th, and will be followed by an in-depth review session accompanied by a test (TBD).

    Whether you are just starting out on your sailing adventure, looking to brush up on your skills before the sailing season, or an experienced sailor aiming to pass advanced sailing qualification tests, this course is tailored to suit your needs. This is an incredible opportunity to enhance your nautical knowledge and ensure safe and enjoyable sailing experiences. Join us and take the helm towards becoming a savvy sailor!

    Coastal Piloting and Navigation Course

    We are thrilled to announce our comprehensive three-part Coastal Piloting and Navigation course designed to enhance your maritime skills. This course is aimed at providing participants with the knowledge and techniques required for accurately navigating coastal and inland waters.

    Course Structure:

    - Part 1 & 2 (Saturdays, February 21th and 28th): These sessions will focus on building skills such as understanding lines of position, dead reckoning methodologies, utilizing ranges, estimating positions, executing running fixes, and applying danger bearings.

    - Part 3 (Saturday, TBD): The morning session will include a review and preparation for the ASA 105 certification exam, followed by the administration of the ASA 105 exam in the afternoon.

    DISC is hosting its annual racing rules presentation.  It will cover the 2025-2028 edition of the Racing Rules of Sailing and DISC Sailing Instructions.  The second session will continue the rules review and cover race committee information.

    Winter Training Series: Diesel Engines and Components

    Want to understand better what is going on "under the hood" of a boat? This year's Diesel Engines and Components class will take place Saturday, 21 March. Tony will teach you basic diesel engine operations, how to perform operator maintenance and DO's & DON'Ts of diesel engine operations.

    The Mount Vernon Chase is a pursuit-style race.  Each boat will be given an individual start time, based on PHRF.  Boats will be scored in the order in which they cross the finish line, rather than having times corrected afterwards.  This is a longer race, and it's a great opportunity to see some scenery further from our usual venue.

    The Frostbite Regatta is the third event of DISC’s Fall High Point Series.  It’s a single-day, multi-race event and is DISC’s last on-the-water event of the year.

    The Hydrilla Cup is a PSC social event hosted by the Racing Squadron. Join us for a day of races, fellowship, and a cookout!

    The main event will be a series of two to three races on the Potomac River in which teams of PSC members compete against each other to claim victory on one of our Capri 22's.  We'll follow the racing with a cookout at the marina.

    This is also a great opportunity to try out for PSC's 2027 racing team.

    This event is free, but registration is required since there's limited space on the boats.  If you'd like to share a dish for the cookout, please send a note to racing@pentagonsailing.org.  If you'd like to attend the cookout but not sail, there's unlimited space to attend.

    Note:  This event is held on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling; you must have an ID card (or a DIBDS card) that allows access to the base to participate.
